In preparation for the first burn of the 2010 WaterFire Columbus season, the event is currently seeking outgoing and energetic individuals to serve as volunteers during the off-season. Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed to help with general equipment cleanup and maintenance activities as well as engine and mechanical work on the boats and boat trailers.
WaterFire is made possible by the hard work, enthusiasm and unwavering dedication of hundreds of volunteers. We will need more than 150 volunteers to work with our full-time staff to create each evening's event.
Specific off-season (January-April) activities include: Cleaning, repairing and painting equipment- boats, buoys, braziers, anchors, boat trailers and engines; transporting equipment to the river; launching boats into the river and placing anchors, braziers and buoys into the river. Additional off-season opportunities include repair and maintenance of the boats and equipment (working in a heated warehouse) and helping to move the boats equipment into and out of the water, as well as, to and from the warehouse at the beginning and end of the season.
The indoor winter storage area, where volunteers will be working, has heating, lighting, running water and bathrooms along with ample space for individuals to work. Volunteering with WaterFire in the off-season is a great opportunity to make new friends and join in the fun for the first time. Most of all, volunteers enjoy a real sense of accomplishment, make good friends, practice their problem-solving skills, get lots of physical exercise and generally have a good time.
Volunteer opportunities are also available during the burn season (May-September).
All volunteers are required to take part in training sessions. The preparation will address all areas of involvement including; safety, communications, information resources, and tending the fires. Special skills are not required for volunteers, but we're always looking for volunteers interested or skilled in marine engine maintenance, boat handling, painting, design, construction, engineering, videography and acoustics, may function as volunteer staff.
Volunteers receive a t-shirt, select invitation to VIP area and an invitation to the recognition reception & dinner.
WaterFire Columbus invites you, along with your family and friends to lend a helping hand with this unique summer event. If you are interested in volunteering and would like more information please contact:
